You will need some luck for this Assault.
Also, a word of warning to you tanks – you will be yelled at, beat down upon, made fun of, hell, you may even be called retarded during this Assault. All about the love… the love…
Awards and a Map
You’ll need this; print out, copy it, whatever, just make sure you are looking at it while reading this section. Also, this Assault takes place in the Mamool Ja Staging Area
Confirmed awards:
The “short version†of the strategy
Cyclonus’s recommended* party setup: x1 tank, x1 healer and x1 support job. Fill the other slots with whatever you want. You can likely do this with just 3-4 people.
*This my own personal take on it; please do not limit yourselves or state that “Cyclonus said, blah blah blah,†any group that works well together can complete this Assault – with a bit of luck
NOTE: This “short version†does not cover the full Assault, it is only meant as an overview/high-level guide.
Strategy: Zone in, proceed to I-8. When you reach this point, cast Sneak/Invis and move to one of the three labeled doors on the map. Pull a mob, have tank stand in front of door and induce TP based attack from mob. Door falls, go in and release NPC
The “Real†Guide
Cyclonus’s recommended* party setup: x1 tank, x1 healer and x1 support job. Fill the other slots with whatever you want. You can likely do this with just 3-4 people.
Strategy: As previously noted, this Assault will require lots of luck.
The idea is to rescue this NPC (which by the way can warp, which in my opinion defeats the purpose of this stupid mission) that has been captured. Now, this is FFXI there is no intelligence gathering, so, the room in which the NPC is being held is unknown.
Per the map, the NPC can be held in one of three rooms. Therefore, when your party has zoned in, do not buff and move to I-8.
At I-8, cast sneak/invisible and move to I/J-9ish, this is one of the possible doors holding the NPC.
At this point you should pull a mob and you will likely have choices. There are three types of Mamool Savages in this area – NIN, WHM and BST.
Again, the objective is to knock down these doors which hold our NPC. However, you cannot target or attack the door directly. So, when you pull a mob, you want it to use one of three TP attacks to “hurt†the door.
These three TP attacks are: Firespit, Axe Throw and Staff Throw. NIN types only offer Firespit, BST offer Firespit and Axe Throw and WHM type offer Firespit and Staff Throw.
A door will typically take 3-5 Firespit attacks to be taken down. Axe and Staff Throw allow the door to be “one-shotted.â€
Also, have your tank stand directly in the center of the doorway. The idea is that the TP attack will hit your tank and either pass over him/her or miss him/her completely and damage the door. As you can tell, this takes time to understand and work out. Your tank will need to adjust his/her position as needed to make this happen.
These mobs do aggro, so be careful when pulling. Also, when pulling a BST have the tank engage the BST while the party kills the pet.
Since the idea is to give the mob as much TP
as possible, do not aim to kill a monster. This means no DoT magic, Weapon Skills or damaging magic. Just swing away and give it TP.
Lo1z, thiz b funz!
In the event that you are able to knock down your first door, all members should disengage the mob, the support job should sleep it and one person should run in and check if the NPC is in the room. If the NPC is in the room, you win and proceed to the Rune of Release.
If the NPC is not in the room, you must move to another door and try your luck again. At this point, you will have a decision as to drag the mob you have been fighting with you or kill it. If the monster you have been fighting is a WHM or BST and there are no other Mamool Ja in the way (aggro), I would suggest dragging. Else, kill and find a few one.
Repeat this process until you are able to free the NPC. Head to the Rune of Release to complete this Assault.
